“There is no perfect fit when you're looking for the next big thing to do. You have to take opportunities and make an opportunity fit for you, rather than the other way around. The ability to learn is the most important quality a leader can have.”

— Sheryl Sandberg, Lean In

StrengthsFinder

This book and its accompanying test are great tools for individuals who are struggling to figure out their next career move, or their career narrative overall. I work with a range of clients from individuals just beginning their careers, to those who have worked for decades and are looking for a change, and they always find this a helpful resource to ground them during their journey.

Pivot: The Only Move That Matters Is Your Next One

This book is one of my favorites to recommend to anyone trying to change careers, especially if they don’t exactly know what’s next. Not only is this a quick read, but it’s full of useful exercises to help you determine your “why”, as well as your “how” and “when”. It’s a book I’ve revisited several times in my own career, and I use many of Jenny’s techniques and exercises with my own coaching clients.

Radical Candor

Whether you’re a professional looking to improve your communication skills or a people manager looking to improve your feedback loops with your team, Radical Candor is a must-read. Kim Scott outlines an incredibly useful, easy framework for giving meaningful, actionable feedback that you can use with colleagues, bosses, and peers.

Leaders Eat Last

Leaders Eat Last should be on your list if you’re managing people, or plan to in the future. Simon Sinek explains at length what it means to be a leader, and how to create psychologically safe spaces for team members to experiment, fail, and grow together.

Don’t Leave Money On The Table

While salary negotiations are something I do work with clients on, I know there is no greater local expert and cheerleader than Jacqueline Twillie. She’s put together an entire book that walks you through all of the considerations and strategies when negotiating your salary. This is a must-have book for anyone working in a male-dominated industry.
