Welcome back, and thanks for reading!
If any of you have been following my journey for the last several months, you’ll notice that I’m actually in business now and that my website has changed quite a bit. For years I have been doing career consulting on the side for free, and I realized that it was time to shape up and actually go into business for myself and charge for what my skill set and knowledge was worth. I created an LLC back in March just under my own name, and it’s been a terrifying and delightful journey ever since.
In the 6 months since I’ve started, I’ve had a healthy (over)dose of imposter syndrome, even with clients who are crushing it and finding their dream jobs after working with me. It’s a strange irony, as I spend all day coaching my clients and helping them to realize and take ownership of their own value. I’m more passionate about this work than most all other things in my life, and yet when you strike out on your own, the world can seem like a scary place that makes you want to doubt yourself nonstop even though that tiny voice in the back of your head keeps whispering “You got this!”.
Ultimately, I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I still work in my full time job at Lifeblue as Director of Culture, so this leap is a lot less scary than it could have been if I didn’t have that safety net. But for all of the work I do on the side, I can now have the support and resources to continue to grow my knowledge base and support the people in my network and beyond who need it most. I also am incredibly lucky that I have the support of my fiancé, who has been managing his own business for almost a year now and has been a great role model for me. It’s a lot more fun to figure this stuff out when you have someone working alongside you in a coffee shop on the weekends (which is exactly where we’re sitting as I write this).
Overall, I’m grateful for the support of the community and my network, who have sent me clients and helped me to get to where I am and now promote my business. If you’re in need of some help, feel free to poke around my website and let me know how I can help. I’m thrilled to be on this journey, and hope you’ll follow along with me here on the blog, subscribe to my newsletter, and follow me on my LinkedIn page.
Happy job hunting!
